If you ever feel that you want more freedom in your heart, visualize a beautiful Hummingbird.  Imagine that it has magical abilities.

If you wish, choose some beautiful soothing relaxing music.  Harry Henshaw’s binaural music is very effective.

Lie down in a comfortable position, hands by your side, eyes closed, and just allow yourself to sink down into whatever you’re lying on.  Breathe. Breathing in deep peace. Breathing out any thing that needs to be released, allowing it to drift away.   Imagine you are on a  tropical, warm beach, by a gentle ocean.  As you lie there,  focus in on your heart and your chest area.  Now imagine a beautiful flower with soft, velvety petals , drifting down and settling over your heart area. As you allow yourself to imagine this beautiful flower,  floating down and settling softly over your heart, allow yourself to sink back even more deeply into the surface you are lying on; like settling into soft, supportive  sand on that warm beach.  This beautiful vibrant flower is absorbing the warm rays of the sun, radiating that warmth into your heart and chest… soothing and relaxing your whole chest area.  Allow that warmth to soften any edges that might need softening,… softening, softening. Breathing in deep peace, breathing out any sensation that needs to be released.

Now comes whirring, the magic hummingbird, sipping from that blossoming flower. Imagine that blossoming flower has absorbed  any sensations  you chose to release and they have drained into that beautiful flower. The healing Hummingbird is sipping up all  you’ve been holding in your heart area, that did not serve you. Imagine you have released what needed to be free, into the flower.  Allow the Hummingbird, a messenger of joy, to take it all away.  Imagine the hummingbird, flying out over the waves and releasing all that you have released, into the  gentle waves of the ocean.  It is all carried out to sea and disappears far beyond the horizon.

In animal totems, the “Hummingbird is the creature that opens the heart. When the hurt that caused us to close our hearts gets a chance to heal, our hearts are free to open again”.

I dedicate this post to my friend, Huck, whose Reconective Healing session led me to the hummingbird.

Ginger Bath: Detoxifying And Warming

January 27th, 2010

Ginger has been used for hundreds, if not thousands of years, to  detoxify and help eliminate  pain.  It promotes sweating, which helps release toxins from the body.

Lalitha Thomas describes ginger’s  properties in her book, 10 Essential Herbs she states the “active ingredients in ginger, provide antiseptic, lymph-cleansing, circulation-stimulating, and mild constipation relief qualities along with a potent perspiration-inducing action that is quite effective in cleansing the system of toxins.”

I recommend using fresh, grated ginger for the bath. It has higher levels of anti-inflammatory agents. When you buy the fresh ginger , look for a ginger that is firm and smooth.  If it is wrinkled, that means it is drying out. Oriental markets are excellent places to look for fresh ginger.

Place ½  cup of freshly grated ginger  in a cloth bag

and then place it in a hot bath and soak for 20-30 minutes.  You may sweat profusely for at least an hour afterward, so wrap an large towel around your body and relax.  Also make sure to drink water after your bath

If you have sensitive skin or are susceptible to allergies, test ginger on your skin for irritation before your  bath. Individuals with tachycardia  should be aware ginger  can produce increased palpitations due to its stimulating nature.”

Seaweed Bath

January 24th, 2010

Taking a seaweed bath once a week may help  to stimulate lymphatic drainage, reduce cellulite, rid your body of toxins,  and balance your  body chemistry.
I buy dried seaweed in Chinatown. I put it in a knee high sock, tie a knot in the top of the knee high and steep it in a large pot full of water for about 15 minutes. I run my bath and pour the water from the pot into the tub. Before I step into the tub, I dry brush my body. I stay in the bath for @30 minutes to give my body time to; absorb the mineral properties, balance my acid/alkaline system, stimulate my liver and fat metabolism. I rub my body with the seaweed that is tied in the knee high. After I get out, I wrap myself in a large towel and relax.

Linda Page, N.D. Ph.D. -  says “Sea plants can transform your health. A seaweed bath is a great way to get the benefits of sea plants all over your body. Seaweed baths are considered very therapeutic because of their very high mineral content. Some call these baths iodine baths, since the iodine content of 1/3 of a cup of seaweed is more than 2,000 times the RDA—recommended daily allowance Seaweed baths also reportedly benefit other organs, including the adrenal glands, because of its vitamin K content, and helps maintain hormone balance.

The electrolytic magnetic action of the sea plants releases excess body fluids from congested cells and dissolves fatty wastes through the skin, replacing them with depleted minerals, particularly potassium and iodine.

Seaweed rehydrates your skin and may relieve conditions like psoriasis. It helps skin elasticity, and the appearance of skin tone. Seaweed baths ease muscular pain. and assist circulation.

Dr. René Quinton, French biologist/physiologist, proved that pure seawater is virtually identical to mammalian blood plasma. With the assistance of many eminent physicians, he successfully used seawater as a healing agent on thousands of patients in France and Egypt in the early 1900s.
Caution: Those with high blood pressure thyroid problems, iodine sensitivity or other health problems should consult their doctors before having a hot seaweed bath.

Importance Of Drinking Water

January 21st, 2010

Create Beauty By Drinking Water

To help individuals meet their personal hydration goals, the International Bottled Water Association has a hydration calculator available on its website at http://www.bottledwater.org/content/hydration-calculator.

One good way to see if your body is an oasis or desert, is to pinch the skin on the top of your hand.  If the skin retains the “pinch” you are not hydrated enough.  In order to create a luminous, healthy body, you must drink water.  Water flushes the toxins  and allows  them to flow out of your system.  If your skin is dull, sallow and dry, you are not “watering” your inner garden.  Be your own best gardener.

One way to determine your specific recommended water intake is to divide your weight (in pounds) by two. The resulting number is the number of ounces of water you need each day. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs., strive to drink 75 ounces of water daily.

It is best to carry water with you in a glass bottle.  By filling a bottle each morning, you will be conscious of the amount of water you are drinking during the day.  Your bottle of water will remind you to beome a verdant body!!

You can alkalize your water by  adding lemons or limes.. This makes the landscape of your body more alkaline which is so excellent for your system. For variety,  you can add cucumber slices or mint leaves to make it more enticing.

Eat water rich foods, such as fruits like watermelon, which is 92 % water by weight.  People suffering from urinary infection caused by insufficient intake of water can drink cranberry juice and eat watermelon along with drinking plenty of water everyday.

You shouldn’t drink too much water while eating as it dilutes your stomach acid and can cause digestion problems

It is not recommended that you reuse plastic water bottles that are intended for one time use, specifically number one plastics. These bottles leach chemicals into your water after multiple uses.
